AMSOSA was originally set up as a self help support group in July 1991, and went under the name of SAMS (Sexually Abused Male Survivors)A few years later and we changed our name to Survivors Swindon, and in 2009, we changed to AMSOSA, and as such, we remain as the longest running support agency for male survivors in the UK, as we have provided a weekly telephone helpline and weekly group therapy sessions that has met every week since 1991.
We are a survivor led and survivor run voluntary organisation, and as such, we have created a uinque and safe space for male survivors of sexual abuse and rape to work through personal and often painful issues.
Our work concentrates on empowering you to make their own positive life choices and begin youe own unique journey of healing, with the support of others and themselves.
Being in contact with other survivors allows you to feel less isolated; feel connected and break the silence and legacy of abuse.
We work with non offending male survivors, offering them the choices they were often denied when abused.
At all times you remain in control of your own healing process and with the combined support of other male survivors, you will often be able to work out what it is you need; and in doing so, help yourselves to become the person you really want to be, and so begin a journey of supported discovery and self-healing.
As stated eslewhere on this site, we do not work with or offer suppport to men who have commited sexual offences, convicted or otherwise and that remains our stance on this subject.
